Now in its second triumphant year, this flagship initiative by JCI Mandaue has shifted its gaze to San Remigio, carrying a blueprint for agricultural revival. Recognizing that resilience requires diversification, the project is aggressively pushing corn farming not just as an alternative crop, but as a catalyst for total community transformation.

Under the strategic umbrella of JCI RISE, this initiative is a masterclass in collaboration. By bridging the gap between local farmers and the Local Government Unit (LGU), JCI Mandaue is ensuring that grassroots cultivators finally have a seat at the policy table.

This year’s program went far beyond distributing seeds. The air in San Remigio buzzed with the sound of progress during a series of intensive workshops. Farmers gathered under open field to tackle the often-overlooked mechanics of agricultural survival: financial literacy and the power of forming farmer cooperatives. By learning to manage capital, negotiate collective prices, and pool resources, these farmers are transitioning from isolated laborers into savvy agri-entrepreneurs.

The highlight of the event, however, looked like a scene from a sci-fi film against the rural Cebuano backdrop. Through a powerhouse, second-year partnership with Ford Tractor Philippines, the fields became a live stage for modern marvels. Roaring engines echoed as combined harvesting and automated planting demonstrations took place. Farmers watched in awe as tasks that normally took back-breaking days were executed with precision in mere minutes. Mechanization is no longer a distant luxury for San Remigio; it is the tangible present.

At its core, MAISang Pangarap addresses two of the most critical vulnerabilities of the modern Philippine economy: economic empowerment and food security. For too long, our agricultural sector has been treated as a relic of the past rather than the engine of our future. By empowering farmers with financial tools and cooperative bargaining power, we elevate them from vulnerable victims of the supply chain to self-sustaining economic drivers.

Furthermore, the focus on corn introduces a vital player to the Filipino dinner table: corn rice (mais rice). As climate change threatens traditional paddy rice yields and global supply chains waiver, embracing corn rice as a nutritious, drought-resistant, and viable alternative staple is no longer just a healthy choice—it is a strategic necessity for food security. When we diversify our fields, we secure our plates.

FARMING FORWARD

Farming forward means refusing to look back at outdated, exhausting methods that keep our food producers in poverty.
